Does anyone know of a quick and easy way of testing water quality thats available to farmers in NI?
We regularly see the kind of brown froth residue in the river here and would like to figure out whether it is septic tank discharge, slurry or something else.
Hi Will,
There are strip test kits you can get for this, test for nitrates and Ecoli etc, this should give you an indication of what is in there. I have bought them online before. Alternatively if you want more accurate analysis any private well drilling company will give you the name of a lab that does water sample analysis as people with private wells have to do these tests regularly.
@Mark Horton @Ciaran McKay can you advise?
Will, @alanh2odr is on here too and should be able to answer
Through our environmental BDG we got a litmus paper type test for phosphates. It will tell you if your water is high in phosphates which is likely to be from the sources you suggest
