Now that we have capability to scutch fibre crops our biggest challenge is spinning if we want to make textiles from flax or nettles. Donegal Yarns have been doing some work with hemp blends so that one is a bit easier. There are currently no spinning mills for flax in the UK or Ireland. But what if we look for end products that don't require spinning? The samples below are from 100% nettle fibre - European nettles - with no spinning involved. We have similar from hemp and flax. Uses in upholstery perhaps? - or maybe I can get those nettle underpants made after all.
