It's our first year in the Environmental Farming Scheme and we're hoping to use the Winter Bird Food Crop option as a bit of a summer cover crop soil conditioner as an entry for either a spring cereal or herbal ley. We'll rotate around different fields over the five years of the agreement and it will drive an additional layer of diversity in our farming system as well as doing what it's supposed to in providing winter food for birds. Will terminate with sheep next March and then mulch the residue and direct drill following crop. Has anyone much experience of growing this and what mix do you use? We've got Wheat, mustard, linseed, Phacelia and quinoa in this one. Hoping for some good flower power later in the summer.

Looks great Will! Phacelia will be great! Is buckwheat an option too?
